[900] Therein, what is the conceit 'I am' (asmimāna)? Regarding form (rūpa), the conceit (māna) 'I am', the desire (chanda) 'I am', the latent tendency (anusaya) 'I am'; regarding feeling (vedanā) … regarding perception (saññā) … regarding volitional formations (saṅkhārā) … regarding consciousness (viññāṇa), the conceit 'I am', the desire 'I am', the latent tendency 'I am' — whatever of such a kind is conceit, conceiving, the state of being conceited, loftiness, haughtiness, (flaunting a) banner, holding oneself aloft, the mind's (citta) desire for a banner — this is called the conceit 'I am'.
