[1527] [S.] Does one abandon the fetter (saññojana) while face to face [with it]? [P.] Yes. [S.] But was it not said by the Blessed One: "When the mind (citta) is thus concentrated, … he directs the mind to the knowledge (ñāṇa) of the destruction of the taints (āsava)" — does such a discourse (suttanta) indeed exist? [P.] Yes. [S.] If so, it should not be said: "One abandons the fetter while face to face [with it]."
