Abhidhammapiṭaka · Kathāvatthu · Vol. 37 · Section 1679

[1679] Sakavādin: Is there form (rūpa) that belongs to the form sphere (rūpāvacara)? Paravādin: Yes. S.: Is form something that seeks attainment (samāpattesiya), something that seeks rebirth (upapattesiya), a pleasant dwelling in this very life (diṭṭhadhammasukhavihāra) — accompanied by (sahagata), conascent with (sahajāta), commingled with (saṃsaṭṭha), and associated with (sampayutta) the mind (citta) that seeks attainment, the mind that seeks rebirth, and the mind that is a pleasant dwelling in this very life; arising together with it, ceasing together with it, having the same basis (vatthu), having the same object (ārammaṇa)? P.: It should not be said thus. … S.: But is it not the case that form is not something that seeks attainment, not something that seeks rebirth, not a pleasant dwelling in this very life; not accompanied by, conascent with, commingled with, or associated with the mind that seeks attainment, the mind that seeks rebirth, or the mind that is a pleasant dwelling in this very life; not arising together with it, not ceasing together with it, not having the same basis, not having the same object? P.: Yes. S.: If form is not something that seeks attainment, not something that seeks rebirth, not a pleasant dwelling in this very life, and is not, with the mind that seeks attainment, … having the same object, then indeed you should not say: "There is form that belongs to the form sphere."
