[237] [Sakavādin:] "Does an Arahant fall away (parihāyati) from Arahantship (arahatta)?"
[Paravādin:] "Yes."
[Sakavādin:] "Has not the Arahant's hatred (dosa) been abandoned … his delusion (moha) been abandoned, his conceit (māna) been abandoned, his wrong view (diṭṭhi) been abandoned, his doubt (vicikicchā) been abandoned, his dullness (thīna) been abandoned, his restlessness (uddhacca) been abandoned, his shamelessness (ahirika) been abandoned, his lack of moral dread (anottappa) been abandoned — cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, obliterated, of a nature not to arise in the future?"
[Paravādin:] "Yes."
[Sakavādin:] "If the Arahant's lack of moral dread has been abandoned — cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, obliterated, of a nature not to arise in the future — then indeed, good sir, it should not be said: 'An Arahant falls away from Arahantship.'"
