[56] Paravādin: Is the person (puggala) not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense (sacchikaṭṭha-paramaṭṭha)?
Sakavādin: Yes.
Paravādin: Was it said by the Blessed One, "There is a person who practices for his own welfare"?
Sakavādin: Yes.
Paravādin: Is form (rūpa) the person?
Sakavādin: It should not be said so.

What you say there — that it should indeed be said, "It was said by the Blessed One, 'There is a person who practices for his own welfare,'" but that it should not be said, "Form is the person" — is wrong. But if it should not be said, "Form is the person," then indeed, good sir, it should not be said, "It was said by the Blessed One, 'There is a person who practices for his own welfare.'" What you say there — that it should indeed be said, "It was said by the Blessed One, 'There is a person who practices for his own welfare,'" but that it should not be said, "Form is the person" — is wrong. …
