[688] S. (Sakavādin): The speech (vohāra) of the Buddha, the Blessed One — when he is speaking of the mundane (lokiya), is it mundane; and when he is speaking of the supramundane (lokuttara), is it supramundane?
P. (Paravādin): Yes.
S. When he is speaking of the mundane, does that [speech] impinge on the mundane ear (sota); and when he is speaking of the supramundane, does it impinge on the supramundane ear? When he is speaking of the mundane, do [people] cognize it by mundane consciousness (viññāṇa); and when he is speaking of the supramundane, do they cognize it by supramundane consciousness? When he is speaking of the mundane, do worldlings (puthujjanā) cognize it; and when he is speaking of the supramundane, do disciples (sāvakā) cognize it?
P. It should not be said thus. …
