[1252] In whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), and the latent tendency of views (diṭṭhānusaya) lie latent, does the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) lie latent in that person there?
There is none.
Or rather, in whomever and wherever the latent tendency of doubt lies latent, do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there?
For the ordinary person (puthujjana), in the form element (rūpadhātu) and in the formless element (arūpadhātu), the latent tendency of doubt, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion do not lie latent in that person there. For that same person, in the two feelings (vedanā) in the sense-desire element (kāmadhātu), the latent tendency of doubt, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of repulsion does not lie latent in that person there. For that same person, in painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā), the latent tendency of doubt, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of conceit do not lie latent in that person there.
In whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent, does the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) lie latent in that person there?
There is none.
Or rather, in whomever and wherever the latent tendency of lust for existence lies latent, do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there?
For three persons, in the form element and in the formless element, the latent tendency of lust for existence and the latent tendency of conceit lie latent in those persons there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of views do not lie latent in those persons there. For the ordinary person, in the form element and in the formless element, the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion do not lie latent in that person there.
In whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent, does the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) lie latent in that person there?
There is none.
Or rather, in whomever and wherever the latent tendency of ignorance lies latent, do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there?
For the non-returner (anāgāmī), in painful feeling, the latent tendency of ignorance lies latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views do not lie latent in that person there. For that same person, in the two feelings in the sense-desire element, in the form element, and in the formless element, the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of conceit lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of views do not lie latent in that person there. For two persons, in the form element and in the formless element, the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of conceit lie latent in those persons there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of views do not lie latent in those persons there. For those same persons, in the two feelings in the sense-desire element, the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of sensual lust, and the latent tendency of conceit lie latent in those persons there, but the latent tendency of repulsion and the latent tendency of views do not lie latent in those persons there. For those same persons, in painful feeling, the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of repulsion lie latent in those persons there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views do not lie latent in those persons there. For the ordinary person, in the form element and in the formless element, the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion do not lie latent in that person there. For that same person, in the two feelings in the sense-desire element, the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of repulsion does not lie latent in that person there. For that same person, in painful feeling, the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of views lie latent in that person there, but the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of conceit do not lie latent in that person there.
