[1253] In whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of views (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) lie latent, does the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) lie latent in that person there?
There is none.
Or else, in whomever and wherever the latent tendency of lust for existence lies latent, do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt lie latent in that person there?
In three persons, in the form element (rūpadhātu) and in the formless element (arūpadhātu), the latent tendency of lust for existence and the latent tendency of conceit lie latent in them there; but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent in them there. In the ordinary person (puthujjana), in the form element and in the formless element, the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt lie latent in that person there; but the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion do not lie latent in that person there.
In whomever and wherever the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt lie latent, does the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) lie latent in that person there?
There is none.
Or else, in whomever and wherever the latent tendency of ignorance lies latent, do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt lie latent in that person there?
In the non-returner (anāgāmī), in painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā), the latent tendency of ignorance lies latent in that person there; but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent in that person there. In that same person, in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu), in the form element, and in the formless element, the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of conceit lie latent in that person there; but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent in that person there.
