[1241] Where the latent tendency to sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency to repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency to conceit (mānānusaya), and the latent tendency to views (diṭṭhānusaya) lie latent, does the latent tendency to doubt (vicikicchānusaya) lie latent there? There is none. Or rather, where the latent tendency to doubt lies latent, do the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent there? In the form element (rūpadhātu) and in the formless element (arūpadhātu): here the latent tendency to doubt, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to sensual lust and the latent tendency to repulsion do not lie latent there. In the two feelings (vedanā) in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu): here the latent tendency to doubt, the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to repulsion does not lie latent there. In painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā): here the latent tendency to doubt, the latent tendency to repulsion, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to sensual lust and the latent tendency to conceit do not lie latent there. Where the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, does the latent tendency to lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) lie latent there? There is none. Or rather, where the latent tendency to lust for existence lies latent, do the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent there? In the form element and in the formless element: here the latent tendency to lust for existence, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to sensual lust and the latent tendency to repulsion do not lie latent there. In the two feelings in the sense-sphere element: here the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to lust for existence and the latent tendency to repulsion do not lie latent there. In painful feeling: here the latent tendency to repulsion and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to lust for existence, the latent tendency to sensual lust, and the latent tendency to conceit do not lie latent there.¹ Where the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, does the latent tendency to ignorance (avijjānusaya) lie latent there? There is none. Or rather, where the latent tendency to ignorance lies latent, do the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent there? In the form element and in the formless element: here the latent tendency to ignorance, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to sensual lust and the latent tendency to repulsion do not lie latent there. In the two feelings in the sense-sphere element: here the latent tendency to ignorance, the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to conceit, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to repulsion does not lie latent there. In painful feeling: here the latent tendency to ignorance, the latent tendency to repulsion, and the latent tendency to views lie latent, but the latent tendency to sensual lust and the latent tendency to conceit do not lie latent there. ¹ [Editorial footnote of the Siam Raṭṭha edition:] "Here too, [the passage] beginning 'in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element' may be in excess of the purport as stated" (idhāpi kāmadhātuyā dvīsu vedanāsūtyādi vuttādhippāyato atirekaṃ siyā).
