[1391] One who does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) — does he not abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya)?
One endowed with the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance. Setting aside the one endowed with the highest path and the eighth person (aṭṭhamaka), the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt and do not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance.
Or rather, one who does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance — does he not abandon the latent tendency of doubt?
The eighth person does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt. Setting aside the one endowed with the highest path and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance and do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt.
