[1410] Whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion (paṭighānusaya) from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to conceit (mānānusaya) from that place? The person endowed with the highest path (aggamagga), in the two feelings (vedanā) in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu), in the form element, and in the formless element: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit therefrom. That same person, in painful feeling and in what is not included (apariyāpanna): he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit therefrom. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and do not abandon the latent tendency to conceit in any place. Or rather, whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from that place? The person endowed with the path of non-returning (anāgāmimagga), in painful feeling: he does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. That same person, in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element, in the form element, in the formless element, and in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit and does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to conceit and do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion in any place. Whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to views (diṭṭhānusaya) … the latent tendency to doubt (vicikicchānusaya) from that place? The eighth person (aṭṭhamaka), in the three feelings in the sense-sphere element, in the form element, and in the formless element: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt therefrom. That same person, in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt therefrom. Setting aside the person endowed with the path of non-returning and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and do not abandon the latent tendency to doubt in any place. Or rather, whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from that place? The person endowed with the path of non-returning, in painful feeling: he does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. That same person, in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element, in the form element, in the formless element, and in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt and does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. Setting aside the person endowed with the path of non-returning and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to doubt and do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion in any place. Whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) from that place? The person endowed with the highest path, in the form element and in the formless element: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence therefrom. That same person, in the three feelings in the sense-sphere element and in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and does not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence therefrom. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and do not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence in any place. Or rather, whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from that place? The person endowed with the path of non-returning, in painful feeling: he does not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. That same person, in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element, in the form element, in the formless element, and in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence and does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence and do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion in any place. Whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance (avijjānusaya) from that place? The person endowed with the highest path, in the three feelings in the sense-sphere element, in the form element, and in the formless element: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance therefrom. That same person, in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance therefrom. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion and do not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance in any place. Or rather, whoever does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance from a given place, does he not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion from that place? The person endowed with the path of non-returning, in painful feeling: he does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance therefrom, but it is not that he does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. That same person, in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element, in the form element, in the formless element, and in what is not included: he does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance and does not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion therefrom. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance and do not abandon the latent tendency to repulsion in any place.
