[1389] One who does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya) — does he not abandon the latent tendency of views (diṭṭhānusaya) … the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya)?
The eighth person (aṭṭhamaka) does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt. The remaining persons — setting aside the one endowed with the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) and the eighth person — do not abandon the latent tendency of conceit and do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt.
Or, one who does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt — does he not abandon the latent tendency of conceit?
The one endowed with the highest path does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit. The remaining persons — setting aside the one endowed with the highest path and the eighth person — do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt and do not abandon the latent tendency of conceit.
One who does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit — does he not abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya)?
