[1457] One who does not fully understand (na parijānāti) the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) — does he not fully understand the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya)?
The person possessed of the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) does not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt, but it is not the case that he does not fully understand the latent tendency of ignorance. Excepting the person possessed of the highest path and the eighth person (aṭṭhamaka), the remaining persons do not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt, and they do not fully understand the latent tendency of ignorance.
Or, one who does not fully understand the latent tendency of ignorance — does he not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt?
The eighth person does not fully understand the latent tendency of ignorance, but it is not the case that he does not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt. Excepting the person possessed of the highest path and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not fully understand the latent tendency of ignorance, and they do not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt.
