[1352] Whoever does not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' (anaññātaññassāmītindriya) — does that one not develop the faculty of perfect knowledge (aññindriya)?
Three persons possessed of the path (maggasamaṅgī) do not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown,' but it is not that they do not develop the faculty of perfect knowledge. Excluding the four persons possessed of the path, the remaining persons do not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' and do not develop the faculty of perfect knowledge.
Or rather, whoever does not develop the faculty of perfect knowledge — does that one not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown'?
The eighth person (aṭṭhamaka) does not develop the faculty of perfect knowledge, but it is not that he does not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown.' Excluding the four persons possessed of the path, the remaining persons do not develop the faculty of perfect knowledge and do not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown.'
