[192] Bhikkhus, here in a certain residence (āvāsa), on the Uposatha day, several resident bhikkhus assemble — four or more. They know: "There are other resident bhikkhus who have not come." Perceiving it as Dhamma, perceiving it as Vinaya, though incomplete, perceiving themselves as complete,¹ they perform the Uposatha and recite the Pātimokkha. While the Pātimokkha is being recited by them, other resident bhikkhus arrive, a greater number. Bhikkhus, those bhikkhus must recite the Pātimokkha again. For the reciters there is an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). … Then other resident bhikkhus arrive, an equal number … a smaller number. What has been recited is well recited; the remainder should be listened to. For the reciters there is an offence of wrong-doing.
