[193] Bhikkhus, here in a certain residence (āvāsa), on the Uposatha day, several resident bhikkhus assemble — four or more. They know: "There are other resident bhikkhus who have not come." Being in doubt — "Is it allowable for us to perform the Uposatha, or is it not allowable?" — they perform the Uposatha and recite the Pātimokkha. While the Pātimokkha is being recited by them, then other resident bhikkhus arrive, greater in number. Bhikkhus, those bhikkhus must recite the Pātimokkha again. For the reciters there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). … Then other resident bhikkhus arrive, equal in number … fewer in number. What has been recited is well recited; the remainder is to be heard. For the reciters there is an offense of wrong-doing.
