Intent on schism (bhedapurekkhārā), [thinking:] 'Let them be lost, let them perish — what use are they?', they perform the Uposatha, they recite the Pātimokkha. While the Pātimokkha is being recited by them, then other resident bhikkhus arrive, greater in number. Bhikkhus, the Pātimokkha must be recited again by those bhikkhus. For the reciters, an offense of thullaccaya. … Then other resident bhikkhus arrive, exactly equal in number … fewer in number. What has been recited is well recited; the remainder should be heard. For the reciters, an offense of thullaccaya.
