[196] Bhikkhus, here again, in a certain residence (āvāsa), on that uposatha day, several resident (āvāsika) bhikkhus assemble—four or more. They do not know: "Other resident bhikkhus are entering within the boundary (sīmā)" … They do not know: "Other resident bhikkhus have entered within the boundary" … They do not see other resident bhikkhus entering within the boundary … They do not see other resident bhikkhus who have entered within the boundary … They do not hear: "Other resident bhikkhus are entering within the boundary" … They do not hear: "Other resident bhikkhus have entered within the boundary" …
Residents in relation to a resident … By the method of the one hundred and seventy-five triads (tika)—incoming (āgantuka) bhikkhus in relation to a resident, residents in relation to an incoming bhikkhu, incoming bhikkhus in relation to an incoming bhikkhu—by way of abbreviated repetition (peyyāla) there are seven hundred triads.
