[1177] A phenomenon (dhamma) associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling (adukkhamasukhā vedanā) is a condition, by way of decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya), for a phenomenon associated with painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā):
Proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on faith (saddhā) associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling, one torments oneself and tortures oneself, and experiences the suffering (dukkha) rooted in the search.
In dependence on virtue (sīla) associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling … (In brief.) … In dependence on aspiration (patthanā), one kills a living being; with a mind (citta) associated with painful feeling one takes what is not given. (In brief.) One causes schism in the Saṅgha.
Faith associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling … … aspiration is a condition, by way of decisive-support condition, for hatred (dosa), for delusion (moha), for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa) accompanied by pain, and for the aggregates (khandhā) associated with painful feeling.
