[1523] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is not-clung-to but subject to clinging (anupādinnupādāniya) is a condition, by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is not-clung-to but subject to clinging: object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on faith (saddhā) that is not-clung-to but subject to clinging, one gives a gift (dāna), undertakes virtue (sīla), performs the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), produces jhāna, produces insight (vipassanā), produces superknowledge (abhiññā), produces an attainment (samāpatti), kills a living being, causes schism in the Saṅgha, cherishes conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi).
In dependence on virtue that is not-clung-to but subject to clinging … on learning (suta), generosity (cāga), wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), hatred (dosa), delusion (moha), conceit, view, aspiration (patthanā), climate (utu), food (bhojana) … lodging (senāsana), one gives a gift, produces an attainment, kills a living being, causes schism in the Saṅgha, cherishes conceit, grasps a view.
Faith that is not-clung-to but subject to clinging … virtue, learning, generosity, wisdom, lust, hatred, delusion, conceit, view, aspiration, climate, food … lodging is a condition, by decisive-support condition, for faith that is not-clung-to but subject to clinging … for virtue, for learning, for generosity, for wisdom, for lust, for hatred, for delusion, for conceit, for view … for aspiration.
The preliminary work (parikamma) for the first jhāna is a condition for the first jhāna; the preliminary work for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana), for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception; the first jhāna, for the second; the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana), for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception; the destruction of life (pāṇātipāta), for the destruction of life; fixed wrong view (niyata-micchādiṭṭhi), for fixed wrong view.
