[1524] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is not clung to but subject to clinging (anupādinnupādāniya) is a condition, by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is clung to and subject to clinging (upādinnupādāniya): proximity decisive support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive support: Depending on faith (saddhā) that is not clung to but subject to clinging, one torments oneself, mortifies oneself, and experiences suffering (dukkha) rooted in the quest.
Depending on virtue (sīla) that is not clung to but subject to clinging … (Abridged.) … depending on a lodging (senāsana), one torments oneself, mortifies oneself, and experiences suffering rooted in the quest.
Faith that is not clung to but subject to clinging … (Abridged.) A lodging is a condition, by decisive-support condition, for bodily pleasure and for bodily pain. Wholesome and unwholesome kamma is a condition, by decisive-support condition, for the result (vipāka).
