[1595] A phenomenon (dhamma) with a limited object (parittārammaṇa) is a condition for a phenomenon with an exalted object (mahaggatārammaṇa) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on faith (saddhā) with a limited object, one produces jhāna with an exalted object; insight (vipassanā) … superknowledge (abhiññā) … one produces an attainment (samāpatti); one conceives conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi). In dependence on virtue (sīla) with a limited object … wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), longing (patthanā), bodily pleasure (kāyika sukha) … bodily pain (kāyika dukkha), one produces jhāna with an exalted object; insight … superknowledge … one produces an attainment; one conceives conceit, grasps a view. Faith with a limited object … bodily pleasure … bodily pain is a condition for faith with an exalted object, for wisdom, for lust, for longing, by decisive-support condition.
