[1478] An exalted phenomenon (mahaggata dhamma) is a condition for an exalted phenomenon by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): proximity decisive support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive support: in dependence on exalted faith (saddhā), one arouses exalted jhāna, superknowledge (abhiññā) … arouses attainment (samāpatti); in dependence on exalted virtue (sīla) … wisdom (paññā), one arouses exalted jhāna … superknowledge … attainment. Exalted faith … wisdom is a condition for exalted faith, for wisdom, by decisive-support condition. The first jhāna [is a condition] for the second jhāna; the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) is a condition for the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) by decisive-support condition.
