[1477] A limited phenomenon (paritta dhamma) is a condition for a measureless phenomenon (appamāṇa dhamma) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on limited faith (saddhā), one produces measureless jhāna, the path (magga) … one produces the attainment of fruition (phalasamāpatti). In dependence on limited virtue (sīla) … wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), aspiration (patthanā), bodily pleasure … a lodging (senāsana), one produces measureless jhāna, the path … one produces the attainment of fruition.
Limited faith … a lodging is a condition for measureless faith, for wisdom, for the path, for the attainment of fruition, by decisive-support condition.
The preliminary work (parikamma) for the first path is a condition for the first path; the preliminary work for the fourth path is a condition for the fourth path, by decisive-support condition.
