[158] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is not a root but with roots (nahetu-sahetuka) is a condition for a phenomenon that is not a root but with roots by association condition (sampayutta-paccaya): one aggregate (khandha) that is not a root but with roots [is a condition] for three [aggregates] … at the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhikkhaṇa) … A phenomenon that is not a root and rootless (nahetu-ahetuka) is a condition for a phenomenon that is not a root and rootless by association condition: one aggregate that is not a root and rootless [is a condition] for three [aggregates] … rebirth-linking.
