[246] A phenomenon with impingement (sappaṭigha dhamma) is a condition for a phenomenon without impingement (appaṭigha dhamma) by faculty condition (indriya-paccaya):
The eye faculty (cakkhundriya) is a condition for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa), and the body faculty (kāyindriya) is a condition for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa), by faculty condition.
A phenomenon without impingement is a condition for a phenomenon without impingement by faculty condition: three (cases). In all three alike, the life faculty (jīvitindriya) should be placed first.
A phenomenon with impingement and a phenomenon without impingement are a condition for a phenomenon without impingement by faculty condition:
The eye faculty and eye-consciousness are a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by eye-consciousness by faculty condition; the body faculty and body-consciousness are a condition for the aggregates accompanied by body-consciousness by faculty condition.
