[343] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is a taint (āsava) is a condition for a phenomenon that is a taint by way of root condition (hetu-paccaya): the taint of sensual desire (kāmāsava) is a condition for the taint of views (diṭṭhāsava) and for the taint of ignorance (avijjāsava) by way of root condition; the taint of existence (bhavāsava) is a condition for the taint of ignorance by way of root condition. A phenomenon that is a taint is a condition for a phenomenon that is not a taint by way of root condition: roots (hetu) that are taints are a condition for the associated aggregates (khandhā) and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) by way of root condition.
