Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (3) · Vol. 42 · Section 404

[404] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a taint (āsava) and subject to taints (sāsava) is a condition, by immediacy condition (anantara-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints: preceding taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent taints. A phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint: preceding taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent aggregates (khandhā) that are subject to taints but not taints. Taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for emergence (vuṭṭhāna). A phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints and for a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint: preceding taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent taints and their associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates. A phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint: preceding aggregates that are subject to taints but not taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent aggregates that are subject to taints but not taints. Conformity (anuloma) [is a condition] for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), conformity for cleansing (vodāna), and adverting (āvajjanā) is a condition, by immediacy condition, for aggregates that are subject to taints but not taints. A phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints: preceding aggregates that are subject to taints but not taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent taints. Adverting is a condition, by immediacy condition, for taints. A phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints and for a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint: preceding aggregates that are subject to taints but not taints are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent taints and their associated aggregates. Adverting is a condition, by immediacy condition, for taints and their associated aggregates. A phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints and a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint are a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints: preceding taints and their associated aggregates are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent taints. A phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints and a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint are a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint: preceding taints and their associated aggregates are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent aggregates that are subject to taints but not taints. Taints and their associated aggregates are a condition, by immediacy condition, for emergence. A phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints and a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint are a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is both a taint and subject to taints and for a phenomenon that is subject to taints but not a taint: preceding taints and their associated aggregates are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent taints and their associated aggregates. All should be expanded in detail in this way. In the taint dyad (āsava-duka) also, the immediacy [condition] should be treated in the same way as this. Adverting and emergence, too, have been set forth in this way. All that has been abbreviated should be made complete, in the same way as the taint dyad, without any difference. The taint-and-subject-to-taints dyad (āsava-sāsava-duka) is concluded. _______________________ The taint-and-associated-with-taints dyad (āsava-āsavasampayutta-duka) The Dependence Chapter (Paṭiccavāra)
