[428] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is a fetter (saññojana) is a condition for a phenomenon that is a fetter by root condition (hetu-paccaya): Roots (hetū) that are fetters are a condition for the associated (sampayuttaka) fetters by root condition. A phenomenon that is a fetter is a condition for a phenomenon that is not a fetter by root condition: Roots that are fetters are a condition for the associated aggregates (khandha) and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) by root condition. A phenomenon that is a fetter is a condition for a phenomenon that is a fetter and for a phenomenon that is not a fetter by root condition: Roots that are fetters are a condition for the associated aggregates and fetters, and for mind-originated forms, by root condition.
