[598] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is a hindrance (nīvaraṇa) is a condition (paccaya) for a phenomenon that is a hindrance by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya) … Natural decisive-support: the hindrances. A phenomenon that is not a hindrance is a condition for a phenomenon that is not a hindrance by decisive-support condition: object decisive-support, proximity decisive-support, natural decisive-support … Natural decisive-support: Depending on faith (saddhā), one gives a gift (dāna); virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance (uposathakamma) … one produces jhāna; insight (vipassanā) … the path (magga) … superknowledge (abhiññā) … one produces an attainment (samāpatti); one arouses conceit (māna); one grasps a view (diṭṭhi).
