Kilessaṅkilesikaduka

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (4) · Vol. 43 · Section 544

[544] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a defilement (kilesa) and subject to defilement (saṅkilesika) is a condition, by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is both a defilement and subject to defilement: object-predominance (ārammaṇādhipati) — three (cases). A phenomenon that is subject to defilement but not a defilement is a condition, by predominance condition, for a phenomenon that is subject to defilement but not a defilement: object-predominance and conascence-predominance (sahajātādhipati). Object-predominance: giving (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance … what was formerly well practiced … having emerged from jhāna, one reviews the jhāna, esteeming it. Trainees (sekhā) review change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), [esteeming it]; they review cleansing (vodāna), esteeming it. Esteeming the eye … the [heart-]base (vatthu) … the aggregates that are subject to defilement but not defilements, aggregates that are subject to defilement but not defilements arise. Conascence-predominance: a predominance that is subject to defilement but not a defilement is a condition, by predominance condition, for the associated aggregates and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa). The other two (cases) also are similar to the defilement dyad (kilesa-duka). So too the predominance in the combinations (ghaṭanā).
