[496] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is defilement (kilesa) is a condition, by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is defilement: object-predominance (ārammaṇādhipati): giving weight to defilements, defilements arise.
The three [sections] are object-predominance only.
A phenomenon that is not defilement (no-kilesa) is a condition, by predominance condition, for a phenomenon that is not defilement: object-predominance, conascence-predominance (sahajātādhipati).
Object-predominance: a gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), giving weight to that, one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it; giving weight to it, lust (rāga) arises, view (diṭṭhi) arises. [What was well done] formerly … [having emerged] from jhāna … The noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from the path (magga), giving weight to the path, … [the path] is a condition, by predominance condition, for fruition (phala). Conascence-predominance: the predominance that is not defilement is a condition, by predominance condition, for the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates and for forms originated by mind (cittasamuṭṭhānā rūpā).
