[771] A phenomenon (dhamma) of the fine-material sphere (rūpāvacara) is a condition, by immediacy condition (anantara-paccaya), for a phenomenon of the fine-material sphere:
Preceding aggregates (khandhā) of the fine-material sphere are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent aggregates of the fine-material sphere.
A phenomenon of the fine-material sphere is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is not of the fine-material sphere:
Death consciousness (cuti-citta) of the fine-material sphere is a condition, by immediacy condition, for rebirth consciousness (upapatti-citta) that is not of the fine-material sphere; the life-continuum (bhavaṅga) of the fine-material sphere [is a condition] for adverting (āvajjana); aggregates of the fine-material sphere are a condition, by immediacy condition, for emergence (vuṭṭhāna) that is not of the fine-material sphere.
A phenomenon that is not of the fine-material sphere is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon that is not of the fine-material sphere:
Preceding aggregates that are not of the fine-material sphere are a condition, by immediacy condition, for subsequent aggregates that are not of the fine-material sphere; conformity (anuloma) [is a condition] for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) … the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) is a condition, by immediacy condition, for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti).
A phenomenon that is not of the fine-material sphere is a condition, by immediacy condition, for a phenomenon of the fine-material sphere:
Death consciousness that is not of the fine-material sphere is a condition, by immediacy condition, for rebirth consciousness of the fine-material sphere; aggregates that are not of the fine-material sphere are a condition, by immediacy condition, for emergence of the fine-material sphere; the preliminary work (parikamma) for the first jhāna is a condition, by immediacy condition, for the first jhāna; for the fourth jhāna … for the divine eye (dibba-cakkhu), for the divine ear element (dibba-sotadhātu), for the knowledge (ñāṇa) of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of penetrating the minds of others (cetopariya-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of [beings'] passing on according to their kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa) … the preliminary work for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa) is a condition, by immediacy condition, for the knowledge of the future.
