[1597] Dependent on an unwholesome (akusala) phenomenon (dhamma) that is a defilement (kilesa), an unwholesome phenomenon that is a defilement arises not by way of root condition (na-hetupaccaya): dependent on doubt (vicikicchā), delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt arises; dependent on restlessness (uddhacca), delusion accompanied by restlessness arises. Dependent on an unwholesome phenomenon that is not a defilement, an unwholesome phenomenon that is a defilement arises not by way of root condition: dependent on the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by doubt, delusion accompanied by doubt arises; dependent on the aggregates accompanied by restlessness, delusion accompanied by restlessness arises. Dependent on an unwholesome phenomenon that is a defilement and an unwholesome phenomenon that is not a defilement, an unwholesome phenomenon that is a defilement arises not by way of root condition: dependent on the aggregates accompanied by doubt and on doubt, delusion accompanied by doubt arises; dependent on the aggregates accompanied by restlessness and on restlessness, delusion accompanied by restlessness arises.
