[1216] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is not accompanied by roots (na-sahetuka) and is not a root (na-hetu), a root (hetu) phenomenon accompanied by roots (sahetuka) arises by root condition (hetupaccayā). Dependent on a phenomenon that is not accompanied by roots and is not a root, a not-root (na-hetu) phenomenon accompanied by roots arises by root condition. Dependent on a phenomenon that is not accompanied by roots and is not a root, a root phenomenon accompanied by roots and a not-root phenomenon accompanied by roots arise by root condition. Three. Dependent on a phenomenon that is not accompanied by roots and is not a not-root (na-nahetu), a not-root phenomenon accompanied by roots arises by root condition. One.
