[19] Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus entered a village wearing sandals. People complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "Just like householders who enjoy sensual pleasures!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, a village should not be entered by one wearing sandals; whoever should enter, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
Now at that time a certain bhikkhu was ill; he was not able to enter the village without sandals. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow an ill bhikkhu to enter a village wearing sandals."
