[193] Bhikkhus, the protest (paṭikkosanā) of some in the midst of the Saṅgha stands; that of some does not stand. And whose protest, bhikkhus, does not stand in the midst of the Saṅgha? Bhikkhus, the protest of a bhikkhunī in the midst of the Saṅgha does not stand. Of a sikkhamānā (female probationer), bhikkhus, … of a sāmaṇera (novice), bhikkhus; of a sāmaṇerī (female novice), bhikkhus; of one who has disavowed the training, bhikkhus; of one who has committed an extreme offense (antimavatthu), bhikkhus; of one who is mad, bhikkhus; of one whose mind (citta) is deranged, bhikkhus; of one racked by feeling (vedanā), bhikkhus; of one suspended for not seeing an offense, bhikkhus; of one suspended for not making amends for an offense, bhikkhus; of one suspended for not relinquishing an evil view, bhikkhus; of a paṇḍaka, bhikkhus; of one living in communion by theft (theyyasaṃvāsaka), bhikkhus; of one who has gone over to the sectarians, bhikkhus; of an animal, bhikkhus; of a matricide, bhikkhus; of a patricide, bhikkhus; of a killer of an arahant, bhikkhus; of a violator of a bhikkhunī, bhikkhus; of a schismatic, bhikkhus; of a shedder of blood, bhikkhus; of a hermaphrodite, bhikkhus; of one belonging to a different communion (nānāsaṃvāsaka), bhikkhus; of one standing within a different boundary (sīmā), bhikkhus; of one standing in the air by psychic power, bhikkhus; and of the one against whom the Saṅgha is performing the act, bhikkhus — the protest in the midst of the Saṅgha does not stand. The protest of these, bhikkhus, does not stand in the midst of the Saṅgha. And whose protest, bhikkhus, stands in the midst of the Saṅgha? Bhikkhus, the protest of a regular bhikkhu in good standing (pakatatta), belonging to the same communion, standing within the same boundary, stands in the midst of the Saṅgha, even if he but makes it known to the bhikkhu immediately next to him. The protest of this one, bhikkhus, stands in the midst of the Saṅgha.
