[207] Then the Saṅgha carried out an act of suspension (ukkhepanīyakamma) against the bhikkhu Channa for not seeing an offence (āpatti), depriving him of communion with the Saṅgha. He, against whom the act of suspension for not seeing an offence had been carried out by the Saṅgha, went from that dwelling to another dwelling. There the bhikkhus neither paid homage to him, nor rose up for him, nor performed the gesture of reverence (añjalikamma), nor performed the proper duties (sāmīcikamma); they did not honour him, did not respect him, did not esteem him, did not venerate him. He, being unhonoured, unrespected, unesteemed, and unvenerated by the bhikkhus, receiving no honour, went from that dwelling too to another dwelling. There too the bhikkhus neither paid homage to him, nor rose up for him, nor performed the gesture of reverence, nor performed the proper duties; they did not honour him, did not respect him, did not esteem him, did not venerate him. He, being unhonoured, unrespected, unesteemed, and unvenerated by the bhikkhus, receiving no honour, went from that dwelling too to another dwelling. There too the bhikkhus neither paid homage to him, nor rose up for him, nor performed the gesture of reverence, nor performed the proper duties; they did not honour him, did not respect him, did not esteem him, did not venerate him. He, being unhonoured, unrespected, unesteemed, and unvenerated by the bhikkhus, receiving no honour, returned once again to Kosambī. He conducted himself properly, he was subdued, he behaved so as to merit release; and approaching the bhikkhus he spoke thus: "Friends, I, against whom the Saṅgha carried out an act of suspension for not seeing an offence, am conducting myself properly, I am subdued, I am behaving so as to merit release. How now should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha revoke the act of suspension carried out against the bhikkhu Channa for not seeing an offence."
