[240] Bhikkhus, when an act of suspension (ukkhepanīyakamma) for not making amends for an offense (āpatti) is possessed of three further factors, it is a legitimate act in accordance with the Dhamma, an act in accordance with the Vinaya, and one well settled: it is done for an actual offense; it is done for an offense that entails confession (desanāgāminī); it is done for an offense that has not been confessed. Bhikkhus, when an act of suspension for not making amends for an offense is possessed of these three factors, it is a legitimate act in accordance with the Dhamma, an act in accordance with the Vinaya, and one well settled.
