[310] Then the Saṅgha carried out an act of suspension (ukkhepaniyakamma) against the bhikkhu Ariṭṭha, formerly of the vulture-killers (gandhabādhipubba), for not relinquishing his evil view — depriving him of communion (asambhoga) with the Saṅgha. He, against whom the Saṅgha had carried out the act of suspension for not relinquishing the evil view, disrobed. Those bhikkhus who were of few wishes … complained, criticized, and spread it about: "How indeed could the bhikkhu Ariṭṭha, formerly of the vulture-killers, against whom the Saṅgha had carried out an act of suspension for not relinquishing an evil view, disrobe?" Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One.
