[311] Then the Blessed One, on account of that incident, in that connection, having had the Saṅgha of bhikkhus assembled, questioned the bhikkhus: "Is it true, as is said, bhikkhus, that the bhikkhu Ariṭṭha, formerly a vulture-trainer, upon whom an act of suspension (ukkhepanīyakamma) had been imposed by the Saṅgha for not relinquishing an evil view, has disrobed?"
"It is true, Blessed One."
The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked him: … "How, bhikkhus, could that foolish man (moghapurisa), upon whom an act of suspension had been imposed by the Saṅgha for not relinquishing an evil view, disrobe? Bhikkhus, this is not for the confidence of those without confidence …" Having rebuked him and given a talk on the Dhamma, he addressed the bhikkhus: "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha revoke the act of suspension imposed for not relinquishing an evil view."
