[323] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu undergoing probation (pārivāsika) should not walk in front of a regular bhikkhu (pakatatta), nor sit in front of him. Whatever is the last seat, the last sleeping-place, or the last dwelling belonging to the Saṅgha — that should be given to him, and he should accept it. Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu undergoing probation should not approach families with a regular bhikkhu as an ascetic going before him or as an ascetic following behind him; he should not undertake the forest-dweller's practice (āraññikaṅga); he should not undertake the alms-food-eater's practice (piṇḍapātikaṅga); and he should not, on that account, have alms-food brought out to him, thinking, "May they not know me."
