Vinayapiṭaka · Cūḷavagga (1) · Vol. 6 · Section 332

[332] Now at that time a great Saṅgha of bhikkhus had assembled at Sāvatthī. The bhikkhus undergoing probation (parivāsa) were not able to fulfill their probation in purity. Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow the probation to be set aside. And thus, bhikkhus, should it be set aside: "That bhikkhu undergoing probation should approach a single bhikkhu, arrange his upper robe over one shoulder, squat down on his heels, raise his joined palms, and say to him: 'I set aside the probation.' The probation is set aside. [Or:] 'I set aside the observance (vatta).' The probation is set aside."
