[333] Now at that time the bhikkhus departed from Sāvatthī to this place and that. The bhikkhus on probation (pārivāsika) were able to clear their probation (parivāsa). Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, I allow the probation to be undertaken. And thus, bhikkhus, should it be undertaken: that bhikkhu on probation should approach a single bhikkhu, arrange his upper robe over one shoulder, squat down on his heels, raise his joined palms, and say to him: 'I undertake the probation.' The probation is thereby undertaken. (Or he should say:) 'I undertake the observance (vatta).' The probation is thereby undertaken."
The Observance for Those on Probation (pārivāsikavatta) is concluded.
