[334] Now at that time, bhikkhus (bhikkhu) deserving to be sent back to the beginning consented to the respectful greeting, rising up in welcome, the gesture of reverence (añjalikamma), acts of proper deference (sāmīcikamma), the bringing forward of a seat, the bringing forward of bedding, water for the feet (pādodaka), a footstool, a foot-wiper, the receiving of bowl and robe, and the rubbing of the back while bathing, from regular bhikkhus (pakatatta). Those bhikkhus who were of few wishes … were annoyed, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can bhikkhus deserving to be sent back to the beginning consent to the respectful greeting, rising up in welcome, the gesture of reverence, acts of proper deference, the bringing forward of a seat, the bringing forward of bedding, water for the feet, a footstool, a foot-wiper, the receiving of bowl and robe, and the rubbing of the back while bathing, from regular bhikkhus?" Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One.
