[354] Now at that time, bhikkhus undergoing mānatta accepted from regular bhikkhus (pakatatta) salutation, rising up in greeting, the act of reverence with joined palms (añjalikamma), acts of proper respect (sāmīcikamma), the bringing forward of a seat, the bringing forward of a bed, water for the feet, a footstool, a foot-wiper, the receiving of their bowl and robe, and the rubbing of their backs when bathing. Those bhikkhus who were of few wishes … became annoyed, complained, and spread it about, saying: "How can bhikkhus undergoing mānatta accept from regular bhikkhus salutation, rising up in greeting, … and the rubbing of their backs when bathing?" Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One.
