[356] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu undergoing penance (mānatta) should conduct himself properly. Herein, this is the proper conduct: he should not confer full ordination (upasampadā); he should not give dependence (nissaya); he should not have a novice (sāmaṇera) attend upon him; he should not accept an agreement to be an exhorter of bhikkhunīs, and even if he has been agreed upon, he should not exhort bhikkhunīs; he should not commit the offence (āpatti) for which the Saṅgha gave the mānatta, nor another of the same kind, nor one worse than that; he should not criticize the formal act (kamma); he should not criticize those who carried out the act; he should not suspend the uposatha of a regular bhikkhu (pakatatta), nor suspend the pavāraṇā; he should not make (a bhikkhu) subject to a formal directive (savacanīya); he should not initiate a censure (anuvāda); he should not have leave (okāsa) granted for accusation; he should not accuse; he should not remind (of an offence); he should not set bhikkhus in contention with bhikkhus.
