[398] Having completed probation (parivāsa) and being deserving of mānatta, he committed one offence (āpatti) in the interval — intentional emission of semen (sañcetanikā sukkavisaṭṭhi), unconcealed. He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I committed one offence — intentional emission of semen — concealed for five days. I requested from the Saṅgha five days' probation for that one offence of intentional emission of semen, concealed for five days. The Saṅgha granted me five days' probation for that one offence of intentional emission of semen, concealed for five days. While I was observing probation, I committed one offence in the interval — intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. I requested from the Saṅgha the sending back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanā) on account of that one offence in the interval — intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. The Saṅgha sent me back to the beginning on account of that one offence in the interval — intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. Having completed probation and being deserving of mānatta, I committed one offence in the interval — intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. How, then, should I proceed?"
Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha send the bhikkhu Udāyī back to the beginning on account of the one offence in the interval — intentional emission of semen, unconcealed."
