[423] He [the venerable Udāyī], having completed probation (parivāsa) and being deserving of penance (mānatta), committed in the interim one offense — intentional emission of semen (sañcetanikā sukkavisaṭṭhi) — concealed for five days. He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I committed one offense — intentional emission of semen — concealed for a fortnight … I, having completed probation and being deserving of penance, committed in the interim one offense — intentional emission of semen — concealed for five days. How, then, should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha, having sent back the bhikkhu Udāyī to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanā) on account of the one interim offense of intentional emission of semen concealed for five days, grant him probation combined with the former offense (samodhānaparivāsa)."
