[456] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu had committed two saṅghādisesa offences, concealed for two months. He thought: "I have committed two saṅghādisesa offences, concealed for two months. What if I were to ask the Saṅgha for one month's probation (parivāsa) for the two offences concealed for two months?" He asked the Saṅgha for one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave him one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months. While he was undergoing probation, conscientiousness (lajjidhamma) set in: "I have committed two saṅghādisesa offences, concealed for two months. I thought: 'I have committed two saṅghādisesa offences, concealed for two months. What if I were to ask the Saṅgha for one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months?' I asked the Saṅgha for one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave me one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months. While I was undergoing probation, conscientiousness set in. What if I were to ask the Saṅgha for probation for the other month as well, for the two offences concealed for two months?"
He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I have committed two saṅghādisesa offences, concealed for two months. I thought: 'I have committed two saṅghādisesa offences, concealed for two months. What if I were to ask the Saṅgha for one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months?' I asked the Saṅgha for one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave me one month's probation for the two offences concealed for two months. Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha give that bhikkhu probation for the other month as well, for the two offences concealed for two months."
